Iron-reducing - and -proteobacteria isolated from laboratory-scaled heterotrophic feammox bioreactor

چکیده
Ammonium removal from wastewater is a crucial step in treatment. Presently employed technologies based on nitrification/denitrification and partial nitritation/anammox principles require oxygen for the nitrification step, are therefore still not yet fully satisfied with application practice. In recent years, biological ammonium oxidation coupled ferric iron reduction (feammox) has been proposed to be responsible nitrogen loss different ecological habitats. Related aspect, feammox principle discussed as an alternative approach without dependency oxygen. From laboratory-scaled bioreactor operated under neutral pH, two bacterial strains FN7 FN9 were isolated by using anaerobic Hungate technique. Comparative analyses of 16S rDNA sequences showed that these most closely related b-proteobacterium Aciclyphilus denitrificans g-proteobacterium Pseudomonas stutzeri, respectively. Although being phylogenetically apart, shared several common physiological characteristics considered meaningful process, i.e. (i) heteroptrophic oxidation, (ii) denitrification, (iii) reduction. These isolates play certain roles studied system, contributing heterotrophic condition. The available GenBank accession numbers LC474369 MT568614,

The iron-oxidizing proteobacteria.
The 'iron bacteria' are a collection of morphologically and phylogenetically heterogeneous prokaryotes. They include some of the first micro-organisms to be observed and described, and continue to be the subject of a considerable body of fundamental and applied microbiological research. While species of iron-oxidizing bacteria can be found in many different phyla, most are affiliated with the P...
متن کاملGenome Analysis of a Novel Broad Host Range Proteobacteria Phage Isolated from a Bioreactor Treating Industrial Wastewater
Bacteriophages are viruses that infect bacteria, and consequently they have a major impact on the development of a microbial population. In this study, the genome of a novel broad host range bacteriophage, Aquamicrobium phage P14, isolated from a wastewater treatment plant, was analyzed. The Aquamicrobium phage P14 was found to infect members of different Proteobacteria classes (Alphaproteobact...
متن کاملDistinguishing iron-reducing from sulfate-reducing conditions.
Ground water systems dominated by iron- or sulfate-reducing conditions may be distinguished by observing concentrations of dissolved iron (Fe(2+)) and sulfide (sum of H(2)S, HS(-), and S(=) species and denoted here as "H(2)S"). This approach is based on the observation that concentrations of Fe(2+) and H(2)S in ground water systems tend to be inversely related according to a hyperbolic function...
متن کاملFerric iron reduction by acidophilic heterotrophic bacteria.
Fifty mesophilic and five moderately thermophilic strains of acidophilic heterotrophic bacteria were tested for the ability to reduce ferric iron in liquid and solid media under aerobic conditions; about 40% of the mesophiles (but none of the moderate thermophiles) displayed at least some capacity to reduce iron. Both rates and extents of ferric iron reduction were highly strain dependent. No a...
